Bio

Working in acrylics, Warren Oneschuk (AFCA) is a realism artist/painter in North Vancouver, BC. His subject matter lies in historical interests – mainly abandoned/rusted vehicles and derelict buildings. He works in a multi-layered, dry brush technique to depict the character of his subjects as portraits through strong composition, a bright colour palette and, varied textures. 

From his graphic design background and seeing creativity as a 24/7 experience, Warren is influenced by his daily observations, self-study, and endless curiosity. 
Since 2011, Warren has been included in 20+ co-exhibitions and group shows. He has completed commissions for private and corporate collectors. He also gives private one-on-one lessons in his technique. 

Warren is an Associate Member (AFCA) of the Federation of Canadian Artists (FCA). He also serves as Secretary on the FCA Board of Directors.

Artist Statement

Rooted in history, my work is a study of the character of abandoned vintage vehicles that have been claimed by nature. In particular, I’m drawn to the beauty of neglected 1940s and 50s trucks, their sculptural shapes and rich textures. Rusted trucks speak volumes, pulling me into their past. I feel an obligation to tell their stories.

Using a bright palette, I begin a piece with a good idea of what I hope to achieve with the subject. Once the paint gets on the canvas, I begin reacting to what I have done. Responding intuitively helps me tell its story, injecting personality and renewed life through my technique.
